Including Your Children in Your Wedding Photos
If you have children, we always recommend giving them an important place in your wedding photography. This doesn't mean every photograph needs to include them. The best approach is usually a mixture of family photographs, photographs with the bridal party and some beautiful moments of just the two of you.
Getting Ready Together The morning preparations can be a lovely time to photograph your children. They might help with small details, spend time with you before the ceremony or simply be part of the excitement. These photographs often become some of the most meaningful family memories because they show what the morning really felt like. We don't need to create a perfect scene. A child sitting beside you, giving you a hug or watching everything happen can be a beautiful photograph.
Let Them Be Part of the Ceremony: Children can have many different roles during the ceremony. They might be a flower girl, page boy or ring bearer, but they don't have to have a formal role to be included.
Some of our favourite photographs are the completely unexpected moments, a child looking back at their parents, holding your hand, giving you a hug or simply taking everything in. And if they become distracted, nervous or decide they don't want to walk down the aisle, that's completely fine. Children are children, and those moments are part of the story too.
Make Time for Family Photographs: We always recommend setting aside some time for photographs with your children. These can be traditional family photographs, but we also like to create more natural images where everyone can interact together. A cuddle, a little walk, holding hands or simply looking at each other can often create much more meaningful photographs than asking everyone to stand perfectly still. If you have several children, we can photograph different combinations too, the whole family together, parents with each child, siblings together and smaller family groups.

Children might be laughing with the bridal party, holding someone's hand or simply joining in with the fun. We keep these photographs relaxed so that they feel like a real part of your wedding day rather than a formal photoshoot.
Give Them Time to Be Themselves: One of the most important things when photographing children is not to force every moment. Some children love having their photograph taken. Others would rather explore, play or stay close to their parents. That's okay. We work around their personalities and look for opportunities throughout the day. Sometimes the best photograph happens when nobody is looking at the camera. A little laugh, a funny expression, a hug or a child running towards you can become one of the photographs you treasure most.
Keep the Couple's Time Important Too: Having children at your wedding doesn't mean that every photograph needs to include them. Your wedding day is also about the two of you. We make sure there is time for beautiful photographs of just the couple, while keeping the session relaxed and not taking you away from your family and guests for too long. This balance is especially important for couples with young children. You should be able to enjoy your wedding day together rather than spending a large part of it posing for photographs.
